The tap on Pay is not the finish line.

Most unfinished checkouts in apps die after the payment sheet opens: a wallet that fails silently, a timeout that wipes the basket, an address form that fights the keyboard. We teach teams to see those moments as design, not as a conversion mystery.

The module on interrupted Apple Pay hand-offs finally explained why our iOS numbers looked healthy until we filtered for “sheet presented, no token”. We still argue about whether to auto-retry wallets, but at least we argue with a diagram.

Native Checkout Recovery Studio is dense. I wanted more time on Android billing quirks; the cart-persistence lab still paid for the week.

Native Checkout Recovery Studio

A six-week working studio for teams who already have an app checkout and a painful drop-off after “Continue to payment”. You instrument the sheet, rewrite recovery copy, and leave with a backlog that engineering can actually sequence.

What we actually drill

Sheet telemetry, not homepage bounce

Abandonment inside an app is a sequence of screens, permissions, and OS wallets. We map events you can ship next sprint, including failures that analytics currently labels as “success then silence”.

Memory after backgrounding

Shoppers leave for a bank app, a 2FA SMS, or a door. If the cart evaporates, you did not lose a “low intent” user—you dropped a completed intent. The lab rebuilds persistence without turning checkout into a login wall.

Copy that admits the stall

Recovery messages that say “You left something” after a wallet error feel insulting. We write states that name the failure, offer a second method, and keep the order intact.
